ONE WARRINGTON: ONE FUTURE
WHERE EVERYONE MATTERS

A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY STRATEGY
FOR WARRINGTON 2009 TO 2030

Our principles

In achieving the vision, ambitions and priorities of One Warrington: One Future, Warrington Partnership will adhere to the following principles:

Community engagement and involvement

Our communities have the right to influence the future of Warrington. We have developed a Partnership Engagement Strategy and through this we will continue to encourage our communities to be actively involved in shaping decisions that affect their lives. One Warrington: One Future cannot be delivered without the active participation and contribution of the community. We have included in the strategy some suggestions received from residents on how communities can help deliver the ambitions and priorities.

Community cohesion

We will ensure that Warrington is a cohesive community where:

  • individuals and communities are widely seen as contributing to the future vision for an area
  • there is a strong sense of individuals’ rights and responsibilities
  • people experience similar life opportunities, access and treatment whatever their background
  • there is a strong sense of trust in institutions
  • there is strong recognition of the contribution of people who have newly arrived, as well as those with long-standing attachments to Warrington
  • there are strong and positive relationships between people from different backgrounds – at work, at school and within neighbourhoods.

We have developed an action plan to safeguard against future threats to community cohesion.

Equality and diversity

We will promote fair and equal treatment for everyone in everything we do and we will value diversity.

  • Equality – equality of opportunity regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socio-economic status, age, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies and cultural differences.
  • Diversity – understanding that each individual is unique and recognising our individual differences. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.

The strategy has at its heart the aim of closing the gaps in quality of life that exist within the borough. This means that as we make improvements in the quality of life of all our residents, we expect improvements to be made at a faster rate for the most disadvantaged.

We also recognise the importance of addressing the needs of older people, vulnerable people and children and young people. The Healthier Communities and Older People Thematic Group and the Children & Young People’s Trust will take the lead in ensuring that our plans and actions specifically take account of their needs.

Delivering added value through working in partnership

We will bring people and organisations together to achieve more together than we would be able to alone. This means joining up service delivery across partners; collaborating to identify the best ways to address our priorities; and using our combined resources efficiently to develop and commission services in creative ways to meet people’s needs.
